History:-

The MBMRS was formed in 2023. The founding members were all active volunteers of the Shackerstone Railway Society (operators of The Battlefield Line Railway) and all had a keen interest in Model Railways - when they had time to of course!

During the years previous to the official formation of the group, various layouts were acquired and moved to the goods shed at Market Bosworth Railway Station. They were worked on in between maintaining and operating the full size trains
whenever time allowed.

In August 2023, the Battlefield Line Railway hosted its first Models Weekend after many years without one, this also being the first one on such a large scale (sorry about the bad pun there!)It was this show that sparked the idea of forming a separate society for those with an interest in model railways in particular, and open its doors to like-minded folk in the local area.

The New Society:-

The aims of Market Bosworth Model Railway Society according to the constitution:

  • To bring together all those with an interest in Model Railways and general model making, within a 15-mile radius of its club rooms in Market Bosworth.

  • To promote recreational activities, mutual support, and joint aid among our members through regular meetings, using both club-owned and personally owned layouts.

  • To grow the skills within the group & passing them to new members.

  • To encourage new members to the hobby, especially junior members, therefore preserving the hobby for future generations.

  • To establish regular events to showcase the work created by the members and invite non-members to these events from the local and wider community.

  • Create regular fundraising initiatives to sustain a regular income.

  • To become a charitable organisation to help access extra funds towards society facilities, costs of open events & towards materials used by the society.

Meetings are currently held at Market Bosworth Goods Shed on an ad-hoc basis, but we hope to have a pre-planned meeting & event diary for 2024. In the meantime we are on the lookout for new members to join our group. Society membership costs just £12 per year (under 16's free). If you would like any further information, or just to pop down and have a look at what we do, please feel free to contact us.
