Profile: A dual gauge miniature railway being built at Market Bosworth station to provide train rides on special events and running days.
We now have about 150ft of track laid, and about the same again ready to lay in 2025.
So to summarize what we have achieved between April - September 2024:
-Construct 150ft of trackbed, with dual gauge track laid
-Ran passenger trains on the 150ft of track at the annual Models Weekend in August
-Built a further 50ft of trackbed up to the level crossing site
-Part built approx 50% of the level crossing groundwork
-Laid a huge concrete base for a carriage shed
-Gone from 0 coaches to 10 coaches!!!
-Completed about 75% of the platform area for "Little Bosworth"
Take a look at the gallery below to see the progress.
Following the completion of "King Richards Wharf" housing development in early 2024, work has now resumed by the volunteers at Market Bosworth station.
Following a period out of use in the early 2000's, the Shackerstone Railway Society began using the station again in around 2010.
Since then, any development of the station has been on hold whilst the housing development and site access was finalised.
The café has now reopened along with the waiting room on the original platform 2 side of the station. The platform 1 side is still owned privately and is currently in use as a garage.
The next task is to tidy the appearance of the station, starting with the housing development boundary line.
It has long been an aspiration of the members of the society that we should install a miniature railway here as an added visitor attraction.
The plan below is an early impression of what we hope to achieve. Throughout 2024 we will continue to lay the trackbed, which also includes a drainage system for the platform.
Some track has already been purchased, and fundraising initiatives are in place to raise revenue to purchase additional track panels. All track is dual gauge - 5" and 7 1/4".
We hope the line will be open in 2025, providing miniature train rides for visitors to the railway, with regular special events too, many to coincide with those held by The Battlefield Line Railway.
